Lincoln Cathedral — one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in the UK, forms the spiritual and historic centre of the city.
Lincoln Castle — a Norman castle with rich medieval heritage; its proximity to the Cathedral and historic quarters means you can soak up centuries of history on a relaxed afternoon stroll.
Whether you’re interested in architecture, medieval history, or simply a city with character — Lincoln delivers.
Unfortunately the famous Lincoln Christmas Market, which people visit from all over the country, is not open for 2025, simply because of how over crowded it became. That said, the spirit of festive Lincoln lives on: the city is still promoting Christmas-themed events, lights, pop-up markets and seasonal cheer across different venues.
Even with no big market, the cathedral offers a magical alternative — perfect for a peaceful, reflective festive outing:
Carols by Candlelight at Lincoln Cathedral — Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 December 2025, 19:00.
“The Snowman” concert (live orchestra) — Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December; plus another screening Tuesday 16 December, 19:30.
A Ceremony of Carols (concert) — Saturday 20 December, matinee and evening performances.
Family Carol Service — Wednesday 24 December, 11:30am.
Carol Services (Lessons & Carols) — Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 December, 16:00.
These events give Lincoln a serene, spiritual and communal festive atmosphere, a great complement to the city’s historic surroundings.
A new seasonal event, Lincoln Ice Adventure, has been introduced: ice sculptures, themed displays, live festive music and a general winter-wonderland vibe across parts of the city, great for inviting young family members along to.
There are also smaller pop-up markets and artisan fairs — for example, a Christmas market at the County Assembly Rooms, Lincoln (in the historic quarter) in early December.
Lincoln isn’t just about history and events – the food and restaurant scene is thriving. If you’re thinking of living at Tyes Close, these spots are worth checking out:
